About the course
Power BI can be a powerful reporting tool for accountants, but getting started can feel daunting. The software combines data preparation, modelling, calculations and visual reporting, and unfamiliar concepts such as Power Query and DAX can make it seem more technical than it needs to be. This course provides a practical introduction that helps you understand how Power BI fits into a typical reporting workflow and how it can support clearer, more insightful financial reporting.
Working through a downloadable workbook alongside the course, you’ll build your own Power BI report step by step. You’ll learn how to import and transform data, create a structured data model, manage relationships between fact and dimension tables, build measures for revenue, cost, profit and year-on-year analysis, and design professional reports using cards, charts, tables, conditional formatting, slicers and interactive visuals.
You’ll come away with a working understanding of how Power BI Desktop and the Power BI Service work together, along with practical experience of building and formatting your own report from start to finish. This course will give you the confidence to organise data effectively, create reliable calculations and produce clear, interactive reports that colleagues and stakeholders can explore and use.
